Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments

Our laser tattoo removal process always starts with a full consultation so that you and your clinician are fully informed on the process and medical history before starting.

Tattoos are an increasingly popular method of body. Unfortunately, there are some who later regret their body art. What seemed like a great idea at the time can cause major problems later in life, including psychological distress. For others, it can result in difficulty in securing employment or going for a promotion. Many have lived with these regrets, wrongly believing them to be permanent. Fortunately, there’s an effective solution available, allowing tattoos to be safely faded and removed using the latest in medical grade laser technology.

Before any laser treatment it is important to get yourself booked in for a consultation. During your consultation one of our Diamond Laser Technicians will run through your medical history to make sure it is 100% safe to complete your laser treatment. All our Laser Technicians are trained at NZ Laser https://www.nzlasertraining.co.nz/

Tattoos have become increasingly popular and accessible, and their popularity has been
accompanied by growth in the desire to remove them. However, the process is never easy, and
the results are variable.
Over time, various techniques have been developed to remove tattoos, such as dermabrasion
and even plastic surgery (to remove the tattooed skin). However, the method described in the
literature with the highest success rate is Q-Switched LASER, with high energy and short pulse
time (nanoseconds).
The ACROMA-QS® handpiece, which is compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms,
works with 20 ns pulses and wavelengths of 1064 nm and 532 nm. It is therefore an effective tool
in the effort to reduce the quantity of pigment color, especially black, red and orange pigments.
The LASER interaction causes mechanical phot disruption of the ink pigment, breaking it into
smaller fragments and allowing phagocytosis by the organism. Lasers is the most common method of tattoo removal performed today. Tattoos consist of thousands of particles of tattoo ink suspended in the skin. The normal human immune system typically removes small foreign particles from the skin. Tattoo ink particles are too big to be removed by this system and are thus considered permanent. The use of lasers helps to break up these particles into smaller pieces that can be removed by the immune system.

Laser treatments work by targeting the ink particles in the skin with highly concentrated light waves that heat up the ink particles and cause them to fragment into smaller particles that are able to be cleared away by the body’s immune system.

Complete removal of a tattoo is usually not accomplished in one or a even 5 laser treatment sessions. Laser tattoo removal typically requires more than one treatment to reduce the size of the ink particles and make it easier for them to be dispersed by the immune system.

Depending on the tattoo design, size and color, it may take 1-10 laser sessions to remove the ink. Some colors of ink are harder to remove than others and may not be able to be completely removed. There should be a six-week time period between each laser session to allow the wounds to heal and the body to absorb as much of the ink as is possible.

Laser tattoo removal is somewhat painful. Many clients describe it as like having a heavy rubber band snapped against the skin repeatedly. Most of the time laser tattoo removal is tolerated very well.

How Laser Tattoo Removal works

Unlike previous methods that involved painful dermabrasion (scraping off the top layer of skin), cryosurgery (freezing the skin then peeling away layers of the tattoo) or excision (cutting the tattoo out), the process is completely non-abrasive and won’t cause scarring.

Our medical-grade laser machine works by producing short pulses of intense light that target the tattoo. These pulses pass straight through to the pigment, leaving the top layers of skin unharmed. When the light is absorbed, the ink molecules are broken down, allowing them to fragment into small particles and be absorbed into the bloodstream. The body then safely and naturally flushes these out of your system, causing the ink to disappear.

What does treatment involve?

Treatment varies from client to client depending on the age, size and type of tattoo, colour of the patient’s skin and depth to which the tattoo or pigment extends beneath the skin’s surface. In general, these steps will take place:

The client is asked to wear eye protection
The skin’s reaction to the laser is tested during the first visit to determine the most effective treatment.
The laser handpiece is placed against the surface of the skin and activating the laser.
As many patients describe it, each pulse feels like the snapping of a rubber band against the skin.
Smaller tattoos or lesions will require fewer pulses, while larger ones will require more. All tattoos will require repeat treatment. The degree of discomfort varies with each person. Depending on your preference and location of the tattoo or lesion.

Due to the variations between tattoo applications, ink components results can sometimes be unpredictable – the clinic will work with you to get the best possible result.

At Diamond Laser our lasers also treat all skin types gently and effectively.Tattoo removal with a laser can be quite uncomfortable.

Tattoo removal with lasers can take several sessions. The treatment is usually spaced 4-8 weeks apart. Results are seen within the first three or four treatments. You can pay as you go, or finance a package. We are here to help you.

How many treatments will I need?

Most of our clients undertake an average of six to twelve treatments to achieve optimal results.

While some lightening may be apparent after only several sessions, more treatments are recommended to reach 80% removal of the unwanted tattoo.

FACTORS that contribute to how many treatments are required and if they will be effective include:

Size of the tattoo. The bigger the tattoo, the more sessions are required to remove it.

Black or coloured ink. Colour will generally require more treatments than black ink.

Location on the body. The closer the tattoo is to your heart, the more blood flow, the quicker it will be to remove. Hands, lower legs and feet do require more treatments.

Professional or Amateur tattoo application. Professional tattoos tend to inject ink deeper into the skin, which require more treatments to reach the depth and remove ink.

Quality, depth and amount of ink used.

Age. Tattoos older than 5 years will require fewer treatments than newer tattoos.

Skin Tone. Clients with lighter skin will respond more efficiently than darker skin. This is because the laser is more effective when there is more of a contrast in shades between the tattoo ink and the tone of the skin.

Immune Response. How efficiently your body removes and flushes the broken ink particles after each treatment may be one of the most important variables.

Scar Tissue. Clients who have been treated elsewhere and have been left with irreversible scar tissue over their tattoo will require more treatments to penetrate the barrier to each the ink pigment.

Post Treatment Care. Proper post treatment care will ensure the healing process is as efficient as it can be.

We’re always striving to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible. That’s why we’ve invested in this piece of equipment, the Cyro-Jet cooling machine. It’s designed to reduce pain and thermal damage that may occur during or after laser treatments

Some before pictures will be taken of your tattoo. We will complete a couple of test spots using the laser to make sure you respond well to the treatment. Most people have no issues and then go on and book their first laser appointment a week later.

Every tattoo is unique, and so is every journey and so the number of treatments reflects this and the pricing will vary accordingly. Our laser technicians will prepare a customized package based on your consultation and individual tattoo.
